I'm excited to introduce a new series on the blog, called "The Monthlies." Every month, my dear friend Arielle will be here to share a special playlist with you. She's especially talented when it comes to making mixes. Arielle and I went to Mount Holyoke together, and she'd often share the most amazing mix CDs with me -- music I wouldn't necessarily choose myself, but with which I completely fell in love thanks to her introduction. Not only was she one of my bridesmaids when Kristie and I got married last May, she also DJ'd the whole reception! I gave her a few songs that I liked, described the overall feel I wanted, and she produced the whole thing impeccably. Which all leads me to say, I'm so happy she's joining me in this space, putting together monthly playlists for you.
About March's mix, Arielle says...
"The grey months are the hardest months. For me, it's not even the cold that's truly bothersome. It's the grey landscapes that fade into early nightfall that raises on cloudy days. I find my perspective tumbles, becomes vulnerable to the snowball effect, if you will. Where is the point of comparison when everything is grey?
If music is a vehicle, then this mix is an ode to the trenches we take in February and a call to something more than survival, by way of March to April. Consider this an acknowledgement of the bleakness of winter and also of the inevitability of seasons. Spring is soon to be upon us."
