Last weekend we made plans for a little playdate at Park Hill Orchard. Kristie and I have been working on shifting Miles's schedule bit by bit to accommodate the upcoming time change (parents, it's Nov. 3!), and he ended up taking such a long nap that we got to the orchard late and could only spend about 20 minutes with our friends before they had to leave to make it home in time for their older kiddo's nap. Sigh...I think this is what adult friendship must look like with kids, right? We rapidfire caught each other up on our lives while the boys (ranging in age from 2 years to 2 months) ran, crawled, and slept respectively.
Once they left, Kristie and Miles and I decided to wander a little.
The pumpkin patch and rows of apple trees at the orchard are flanked by large art installations, including the eminent red frame. We looked around, took some photos, and let Miles scrounge around in the pumpkin patch for awhile.
I knitted his pumpkin baby hat with a pattern I wrote five years ago.
I think this was Miles's favorite part. He clambered over pumpkins, using them to boost himself up onto his feet. He pulled at the stems, patted the pumpkins gently, and tried to eat dead vines. In fact, it was with much (loud) complaint that I finally strapped him back into the carrier.
I had my first apple cider slushie on Saturday, too, despite the cold. It was so good! I want another!
Inside the little farm store, Kristie bought a half-dozen apple cider donuts to bring home.
This last picture, of the yellow apples, reminds me of this incredible self-portrait series that Jamie Beck of Ann Street Studio is sharing. It's in the apples' warmth, or glow, or something. They look very painterly in this shot I think, and so does she in those portraits.
