In the very last week of September, my wife Kristie and I both took Wednesday off from work. I dropped the baby off at daycare in the morning, ran a few errands, and then Kristie and I drove to the Big E in West Springfield, where we met our friends Brittney and Shana for a day of grown-ups-only fun. (Our sons go to the same daycare!)
Do you go to the Big E? It's a crazy huge annual fair and expo. Kristie loves it and I like it, and so we try to go each year. Last year we skipped it because I was so pregnant, and the year before I didn't write a blog post, so I'll send you to 2015 if you want to see a visit from years past.
These vibrating chairs are so bizarre. They shake your feet sososo fast, which feels very weird and kind of good after a day spent walking around the fair.
We strolled around, stopping at whatever stalls struck our fancy to play games or shop a little. Brittney was so good at the balloon dart game!
We checked on the baby farm animals and giant pumpkins, visited the State Houses, and ate our faces off. My favorite this year: the baked potato from the Maine State House, pictured at the top of the post. Other notable highlights include pumpkin beer with a cinnamon-sugar rim, and poutine with gravy straight from Montrèal. (It continues to be Kristie's favorite thing.)
Miles will love the Big E too – maybe we'll take him next year. But this day trip was fun. We all got a chance to miss our kids – and even act like kids ourselves for a little bit!
