I was thinking about autumn coming soon and looking casually at velvet sneakers for sale online, as you do. These are from Free People and are $65 so not prohibitively expensive. Rather than a velvet upper, the shoe is canvas with velvet laces. An easy way to switch back and forth between summer and fall, I think. The substitution of white cotton laces would make them instantly appropriate for scrambling on rocks at the Cape. Or of course, to be more forward-thinking, velvet ribbon could be purchased now as transition laces for the sneakers you've been wearing all summer.
