What's going on around here
There's been some radio silence around here lately, huh? My usual winter break from blogging got extended by a round of colds at our house, plus a major project at work that still hasn't wrapped up. I'm excited to come back at ya in the next few weeks with a couple of changes.
I'm thanking my past self for working on our living room in the fall, because we are enjoying the hell out of that bright, colorful, organized space now.
A few resolutions on Instagram
It's time to reread The Handmaid's Tale, I think. Don't you? First of all, the TV series is coming out soon, and it looks creepy-good. Secondly, it feels important to keep cautionary tales like this one in the forefront of our minds right now. Politically. Important to have this story waiting in our mouths.
The snickerdoodle bread that my mom made 'round Christmas, and is featured in that picture up there. It's so good – even when it's gluten-free.
Speaking of Mom and Christmas and newspapers, she and I made it a habit over the holiday to tackle Frank Longo's daily Spelling Bee puzzles in The New York Times. They are fun for wordsmiths, and challenging, too (especially so if you've read the rules wrong the first three times).

A short list of things I've found myself grateful for so far this year: gypsy cold care tea, a good chiropractor, an emergency savings account.
Kristie got a new FitBit for Christmas, and I inherited her old one, and am now motivated enough to take the long way to the bathroom at work. Do you wear one?
