My arsenal of cold-fighting weapons includes Kristie's homemade chicken soup, hot toddies, a Neti pot, and now... fire cider.
Fire cider is: Apple cider vinegar, oranges, lemons, onions, ginger, horseradish, habanero pepper, garlic, honey and turmeric.
And it is terrible.
I swear to god though, it is keeping me healthy! I've been taking it for the past year, mostly when I feel like I'm coming down with something, but now that it's fall, every morning I pinch my nose and drink about a teaspoon of it like a shot. In a shot glass. I literally pretend it's tequila. And after that I chug water, because, I'm not kidding, it tastes so bad. But I'm getting used to it! And it's good for your immune system, digestion, all that shit.
Fire cider is a tonic popular with New Englanders. Lots of people make their own at home. I buy mine here. (You can also order it online. And here are a bunch of recipes!)
