I keep my jewelry all spread out on top of my dresser – that way, I can see it all at once! But I do realize that this system doesn't make sense to all people...my wife, for example. "Don't you want a way to get it all organized?" she asked me this past weekend. But...it is organized, à la my bedroom from ages 6 to 17 ;) It's not that I have so much jewelry I forget about it if I can't see it, but it's easier for me to make quick choices if I can glance over it all in one place.
I don't add to my jewelry collection very often – usually only if there's a sale at Madewell. But I found myself wanting a pair of tassel earrings. They can get seriously expensive, so it was an easy choice to make them myself. And the supplies cost just $5!
You will need:
- Six pieces of black embroidery thread cut to 3.5" (six pieces per each earring, so 12 total)
- Two jump rings
- Two small spacers (I used the smallest ones in this pack)
- Two fishhook earrings
- Jewelry pliers
- Gold thread
Thread six pieces of embroidery thread through a jump ring. Fold all of the thread with the ring in the middle. Wrap just under the jump ring with gold thread until you reach the desired thickness. Double knot, and snip the ends.
Attach the spacer bar to the jump ring on one end, and the fish hook earring on the other.
Separate the fibers of the embroidery thread to make the earring look a little fuller (and, as my friend Katy put it, "less like embroidery thread."). You can see the end result much better in the top image. I LOVE these earrings! $5 and 15 minutes, seriously. I might make a couple pairs for gifts...
