I love the look of giant knitting – the chunky blankets seem so cozy! But the yarn and kits can get expensive really fast, so I decided to try something on a smaller (more affordable) scale. Enter: giant knitted pillow.
All the look, just a little bit of the price (around $50 vs. like $600). Knitting with those giant needles was a real trip. I couldn't work on it for too long without getting cramps in my hands! It was very cool, though. I can't wait to make a blanket (when I win the lottery).
You will need:
- Size 50 knitting needles
- 5 skeins Loops & Threads Chunky or Biggie
- 18" pillow form
Cast on 30 stitches and knit each row back and forth until work measures 22". Cast off, leaving a long tail. Fold work in half, and weave the tail in and out to "stitch" up two sides. Insert pillow form, and stitch up the final side. Tuck in all ends.
I have to confess, though – I couldn't be done with this project soon enough. Having this pile of yarn in my lap on a 90º day? No thank you! I really like the way it looks in our guest room – and I'm sure I won't be able to get enough of it this winter.
