It's amazing what two cans of spray paint and a few pieces of cardboard can do. I planned a quick makeover for our doormat this weekend to both update the once-beautiful-but-now-faded one we've been using, and to incorporate our house number. Because we live in a duplex, sometimes we get our neighbors' mail :) which is okay because we love them. But I thought this might help too!
I spray-painted first with a layer of white, to act as primer kind of, and to be the numbers. I made sure it was extra opaque where the numbers would be.
While the white paint was drying, I freehanded a "1" and a "2" on cardboard, and cut out the numbers. I got nervous that they'd move during the next layer of paint, so I rolled up a few pieces of tape for the backs to attach them to the mat. Then added a layer of yellow paint!
Nice and bright, which totally matches the rest of our porch. Oh man, I can't wait for all that greenery to come back outside the windows!
