This was one of those, hmm, I wonder if that will work ideas. I found clip-on earrings at Knack this past weekend though, and had to try! The resulting product is a teetering balance between vintage and modern, and I like the tomboy-ish sensibility it brings. (How do you feel about that word? I've heard a few different opinions about the use of "tomboy" to describe the adoption of traditionally masculine style by people who would be thought of as conventionally feminine. I don't know how I feel about it yet.)
I used:
- Vintage clip-on earrings
- Three chains (cut to 8", 9", and 10")
- A paint pen
- A hot glue gun
- Two little pieces of faux leather (although felt would work too)
I liked the earrings, but thought they were a little plain, so I used a paint pen to kind of "color in" the centers. While that dried...
I used the hot glue gun to attach the chains (as evenly as I could) to the back of one leather piece. I did the same with the other end of the chains and the other leather piece. Be careful the chains don't get twisted!
It will look like this. Such a nice smile! :)
Then, I glued the earrings to the same side of the leather to which the chains were attached. Let it dry, and then simply clip to your collar!
PS - How to make your own collar stays.
