Ohmygosh, this face. I'm sure this isn't news to you, but I'm kind of into my dog Samson. He's a mixed breed rescue – we got him from this shelter when he was just 11 weeks old! Let's go back in time for just a second...
(Brb, crying.)
According to the shelter, Samson and his many brothers and sisters are "hound/terrier mixes." Kristie and I figured that probably meant he was at least part pit bull, and we deliberated for awhile over getting a dog with such a bad rep. Ultimately we looked at the facts and learned that it's most often the intervention of crappy humans that turns any dog into a problem – it's unfair to cross a whole breed off the list just because they're more vulnerable to assholes. Plus we would've missed out the sweetest, funniest, friendliest (almost to a fault, tbh) dog in the world!
ANYWAY! We've spent lots of time puzzling over the rest of Sammy's genetic background. (I swore I could see the hound-y parts every once in awhile, like when he lifts his paw if he smells something interesting.) That's why I'm excited to partner with Cesar to share two things: 1) a new way to get some insight into your mixed breed's history; and 2) Samson's favorite dinner!
I feel kinda bad. We'd been feeding Samson dry food his whole life when some digestive issues he was having got us to finally consider wet food. All of a sudden it was like feeding a new dog. He flips out at mealtime now. He LOVES it! And he loved trying Cesar’s Canine Cuisine Home Delights. Honestly it was almost impossible to get the above picture without his face in it. And I was actually surprised to see that the food was recognizable as, well, food. Peas, carrots, chicken, I could tell exactly what he was eating.
So here's the other thing. Cesar has this mobile site, feedthefriendship.com, that if you have a mixed breed dog too, you need to go to right now from your phone. It lets you upload a pic, and then guesses at your dog's breed history! I have to say, I was not surprised at Samson's results...
All of the bull terriers, ha! The little history and facts they provide are sooo cute. (That muscle-bound cartoon dog is cracking me up.) And "intelligent" and "fun-loving"? Yup, he's those things for sure. It was a fun way to explore what could very well be his genetic makeup. I highly recommend getting on that site.
Oh, and when you explore feedthefriendship.com between now and February 19, you can enter to win a free Feed the Friendship kit that includes a Wisdom Panel Canine DNA Test, a free sample of Cesar Home Delights dog food, and a custom Cesar placemat (like the one in these pictures!). We recently swabbed Samson for his doggie DNA test, and while the results aren't back yet, I have to share this picture...omg his side-eye.
