Last weekend, Katy, Kristie, and I headed to West Springfield for the New England autumn tradition of the Big E. We went on a ride or two, played some games, but mostly -- we ate. And if you've been before, you know that's what it's all about.
Everything we ate at the Big E:
- Pierogies and kielbasa
- Hard root beer (yum!)
- A cheeseburger
- French fries
- Soft-serve ice cream
- Ben & Jerry's ice cream from the Vermont house
- Meat sticks
- Smoked salmon on a stick (thanks Maine!)
- Apple cider donuts from CT
- Two life-changing baked potatoes
I think the State Houses are the best part. You get to buy food and wares from each state in New England, and learn about their history and what they're known for. And did you know, as soon as you step into one of the houses, you're actually in that state?! We went through every one, except for Rhode Island, because we forgot they are part of New England (sorry).
See the stuffed dog at the VT Flannel Company building? I'm totally inspired to make Samson a flannel jacket using this pattern.
In the CT house, you can play with Legos :)
Smoked salmon on a stick, from the Maine house.
After visiting the state houses and before eating our way through the rest of the fair, we went and checked out the rides. (PS how beautiful is the moon??)
Katy and I went on one of the two ferris wheels, and the view from the top was amazing. It reminded us how big the Big E actually is.
And then we played a couple games. Kristie even won me a little stuffed moose! And a giant stuffed angel fish, which we gave away to a kid at the fair. No room in the house for that ;)
And a good resource if you're headed to the Big E before it closes on Oct. 4: the Food Finder (key).
*This is not at all a sponsored post, btw. We just love fairs and food!
