Our dear friends Steve and Anna just adopted a new dog! I put together a little care package full of treats for their dog Nina to celebrate her new home. (She's named after the Nina Simone song, "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free." She's an adult pit bull who was rescued from a horrific breeding situation, and is already proving herself to be a happy, loving girl, and was adopted as part of the Clear the Shelters program.)
Putting such a celebratory box together was a lot of fun. After the challenges Nina has lived through, it is definitely time to pamper her!
I had a coupon for NutriDent, so I bought a pack of those teeth-cleaning ones at the grocery store. Then I went to Dave's (which I highly recommend if you're local) for the rest -- a dog-friendly cookie decorated like a cupcake; a bandana that I thought would look great with Nina's coloring; a jar of paw balm to soothe and protect the sensitive pads of her feet from the salt that's spread on streets and sidewalks during winter; a bully stick (GROSS I know! but Steve and I bought one for Samson once, not realizing what it was at first, and while Samson loved it, the whole house smelled just awful. Now it's Steve's turn ;); and a fun soft toy. Oh, and I also baked her "N"-shaped dog biscuits using this recipe and these cookie-cutters.
Poor Samson was so confused as to why all these treats and toys on the floor weren't for him...
Don't worry. He got his own cupcake-decorated cookie AND "S"-shaped biscuits after I was done packing up the box.
And here she is, the beautiful Miss Thang wearing her new bandana! I can't wait to meet her in person. I think she and Samson are just going to love each other. Isn't her big smile just the sweetest?
PS - See Samson's newest trick!
