What is it about travel that just wants to make you travel more? Kristie and I have always talked about prioritizing new adventures and time away, and since we've been planning our trip next month to France and the United Kingdom, it's brought up the topic of all the other places we want to visit in the next year or two. (I love sharing travel goals with her.) Some are more realistic than others, but this time of year, it's hard not to daydream about escaping the cold!
First, Minneapolis. We'll be road tripping it out there in June or July to visit our amazing friend-soulmates Amanda and Cayla. (They came out here last summer.) Neither Kristie nor I have ever visited Minnesota, and we're really looking forward to seeing our friends again -- and to trying hot dish.
Next is Washington, DC. Kristie used to live there, but I've never visited our nation's capitol before. As it's so close to my in-laws in Virginia, we're going to try to make it a priority to spend at least a night in DC next time we visit them.
And San Francisco is on the list. Neither of us have ever been to California before, and I think we'd really love it. I'm going to try and find a conference out there and make it a working trip (a.k.a. significantly more affordable), K can tag along, and we'll stretch it out for a couple of days at the end.
Finally, Tulum, Mexico. Although in all reality, at this point, this could be replaced with anywhere with a fucking beach. Tulum is an ideal, but honestly seems pretty expensive, so maybe somewhere similar and cheaper. My criteria: Affordable, not too long of a flight, a quiet beach that's not crowded, cheap drinks. (Do you have any suggestions that fit this criteria? I'd love to hear!) We're also toying with the idea of a cruise that leaves from Boston and goes, you know, literally anywhere tropical, but we'd want to be sure and find one that's really eco-friendly.
It's also fun to dream bigger, of course. We've already started saving points for a trip to Italy and Greece in five years, and I'm convinced we'll be able to squeeze in a visit to Iceland at some point, too. Kristie wants to see the American Southwest, and I'd love to head South (#texasforever) and visit as many national parks as we can. I really like being married to someone who shares my appetite for adventure and visiting new places -- now we just have to figure out how to pay for it all! ;)
