There was one week this month -- one really great week where I got almost nothing done but sewing. Every day I would get home from work and plant myself in front of my sewing machine at the kitchen table. (We do have a spare bedroom upstairs that's full of craft supplies, but I can't stand to be away from all the action downstairs.)
I have a new sewing machine that has been making my life much easier and more efficient. It was a splurge, but I don't regret it at all.
As you probably know, Amazon is an affiliate sponsor of this blog, which means if you make a purchase through one of the links I post, I get a tiny commission in the form of an Amazon gift card. I use the majority of that to purchase supplies for future projects and tutorials -- I like to "keep it in the blog." Well, it seems like people (present company included) spent a lot on Amazon in December, and I was able to purchase the sewing machine. (Here's a visual for you: When I saw December's revenue repots, I actually burst into tears and then called Amazon to make sure it wasn't a mistake.) I tracked the package every day until it arrived and I'm really happy to say goodbye to my 13-year-old sewing machine! Fingers crossed I'll be able to find a good home for it on Craigslist.
ANYWAY, I wanted to show you my two most recent projects. I sewed a hoodie for Samson, and a pair of pants for myself.
I kept that sentence for awhile once I was finished, turning it over in my head. I sewed a pair of pants. Very cool feeling.
And yeah, our dog has clothes. Probably because we don't have a baby yet. But he's just so damn cute!
In case you want to make these too, I used this pattern for Samson's hoodie and this pattern for the pants. Before sewing the pants, the hoodie was the hardest thing I'd ever made! Samson's hoodie was, at least, a smaller project. Both patterns presented challenges (especially since this was my first time sewing pockets and actually I'd better be honest my first time sewing something that actually fit my body), but also lots of opportunities to rush into the living room and say, Kristie! I made a buttonhole! or Kristie! I made pockets! It's all about the little wins, right?
I'm actually planning to wear almost this exact outfit on the plane to Paris. The pants feel like sweatpants but (hopefully) don't look quite so casual. And -- for the record, that shirt has black stripes. I'm wearing it right now. I don't know why it looks blue in these pictures.
