I recently read about the history of the tomato pin cushion. It's lovely to know the story behind it. Reading abou it reminded me of the tomato-shaped pin cushion my mom keeps in her sewing basket. I never realized they were in so many households! I decided to make my own last weekend, using needle felting.
Start by shaping your core wool with an all-purpose needle into a tomato shape. I used a tiny bowl to help guide the shape.
Wrap the tomato shape in red wool and felt in place using the all-purpose needle.
Cut a leaf shape out of regular green felt, and stitch to the top.
PS - DIY felted pumpkins.
