Did you know that if you mail one of your wedding invitations to the White House, you'll get a special letter back? (I don't know what we would've done if Barack and Michelle had actually shown up at our wedding! Probably died of happiness.) Well, we now have this letter framed and hanging in our house. I don't suffer any illusions that Obama actually received our invitation himself (or that he even hand-signed this letter), but seeing an envelope come from the White House addressed to "Ms. Kristie Hammer" and "Ms. Hannah Wareham," containing a letter explicitly congratulating us on our obviously gay marriage was pretty damn cool. Thanks, Obama!
(If you want to do it too, mail one of your invitations to: Honorable Barack Obama and Mrs. Obama; The White House; Greetings Office, Room 39; 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW; Washington, DC 20502. Don't forget the reply card! You never know...)
What are you up to this weekend? We're having a giant tag sale (email me if you live in the area and want to stop by, I'll give you our address! Lots of vintage!), watching the Bruins game on Saturday night, and maybe heading down to Ikea in New Haven Sunday evening to meet up with some NYC friends for dinner (that's right, a dinner date at Ikea...and probably also buying a hundred things to replace everything sold at our tag sale). Kristie and I have been filling up our post-wedding free time with planning lots of DIY projects around the house -- including a couple I'm legitimately scared to do (they involve lots of sewing). Next week we're taking a road trip down to Virginia to visit Kristie's family and friends (and stop by a grilled cheese truck, lavender farm, and book fair). I can't wait! Keep an eye out, though, because there will be posts here about the story behind my wedding dress, photos from our day trip to Hampton Beach, and more.
