We needed a break.
A few weeks post-wedding, things were starting to get back to normal, but Kristie and I still just felt...tired. It's been a crazy (dare I say stressful?) spring. So when Kristie's scheduled changed for the summer, giving her some Mondays off, I decided to use one of my vacation days and we escaped up the coast together to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.
This seaside town felt like a small Virginia Beach, but cleaner (and you can swear)! Lots of kitschy shops, burger joints, and bikini-clad jaywalkers, and a busy boardwalk. We happened to drive up as they were preparing for the 13th Annual Master Sand Sculpting Competition, so we caught a glimpse of a few amazing works in progress.
I was kicking myself for forgetting my Kindle at my parents' house on Father's Day, but it gave me the opportunity to get into Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I tried it a few months ago and wasn't hooked, but I'm glad I picked it up again.
Despite the day's sunny start, it began to rain in the afternoon. We grabbed a chocolate milkshake and headed for the shelter of the Playland Arcade (right on the boardwalk) for some skeeball!
