saying i've been looking forward to our honeymoon is an understatement. it's my go-to in moments of stress, tiredness, what i think about when i'm falling asleep. i. can't. wait.
originally we were planning on going to france for 10 days -- to rent a car in paris and drive all the way down to provence + back. but planning that vacation was starting to rival planning the wedding in terms of stress. there's just so much to do + see in that beautiful country, i was putting too much pressure on us to do it all in the short amount of time we'd have. so kristie + i sat down and asked ourselves, what are we going to want to do when all of this is over? answer: nothing.
so that's what we're going to do. we googled "gay-friendly caribbean" + found the island of curacao. then we learned about the avila hotel, the first hotel on that island to be certified by the international gay + lesbian travel association. their website even has a page dedicated to gay + lesbian travelers. a same-sex couple we know just returned from their honeymoon on that island, having stayed in that hotel, and couldn't speak highly enough of their experience.
blue water, white sands, drinks on the beach. swimming with dolphins, riding horses through the hills, sleeping in every day. room service, couples massages, wandering through the european-influenced city of willemstad. we registered via honeyfund.com for enough to cover the whole trip, so our fingers are crossed that our guests head to that registry first!
so, am i looking forward to our honeymoon? to answer the question, it's march + i've already made this:
