our backyard after storm nemo
patience is not now + has never been a virtue of mine, but usually i'm good at waiting out winter. i like getting snowed in, drinking hot chocolate, being cuddle-y + warm. but this year? i'm kind of...over it. maybe it was the fact that i actually shoveled this year, or that it's just been so cold.
i was in the backyard yesterday taking samson out for a bathroom break. the snow is still so deep i can't tell where our garden is. the lawn furniture is piled against the garage. the fire pit is up on the back porch (filled with ice). the laundry line is frozen, and the hammock is rolled up in the basement. it's hard to imagine the late dinners we'd have at the picnic table while the sun went down; cold drinks + citronella candles with friends being loud into the night; sitting on the back steps with our neighbors. i miss using our backyard! iced coffee in the hammock, hanging fresh laundry to air dry, working in the garden...i could go on + on. this is a seriously list-heavy post. long story short: i miss summer in our backyard. i know it's only a matter of time, so meanwhile, i'm grateful we have heat, a roof over our heads, and a super-warm dog making us sweat + throw off all the covers in the middle of the night. whenever you're ready, summer!
