remember the 4 simple goals before 2013 idea? well, i've actually gotten started on all of them, believe it or not. + here are the results of our first effort trying to minimize around the house: my new favorite corner, in our living room. a well-timed + awesomely fun trip to ikea helped kickstart our redecorating (as well as a really great christmas present!) + i'm so happy with how it's gone so far.
instead of getting each other christmas presents this past holiday season, kristie + i decided to go in on a big gift that both of us can enjoy: a brand-new record player. it's very exciting for us, since the ones we've had have always been used -- which really is okay, except that they never lasted very long. the one we had before this was held together with wine corks + could only play one side of a record before overheating. so. enter the studebaker.
it's amazing the difference that small upgrades can make. we got a new floor lamp + pillowcase. combined with a vintage baby blue cabinet i've had since my very first apartment, a rustic wooden-framed mirror i found years ago in a dumpster (not kidding) + our framed billie holiday record, this corner of the house feels like a brand-new room.
i'm so happy with how it went. i feel like i finally managed to combine modern + vintage in a clean, simple way. kristie really likes it too, which is the best. part of me wishes i had a before shot to show you, but part of me is glad i don't. because it was terrible.
more interior updates to come -- but slowly. meanwhile, we'll all be enjoying our new living room corner...and the window.
