these weeks have been filled with cooking + baking, so it's no surprise photos of food are all i have on my camera now! kristie's birthday was last weekend so i made baked potato soup (loaded w/ bacon + cheese) + a red velvet cake that actually turned out to be more of a pink velvet cake, since i ran out of food coloring. oops! but she was sung "happy birthday" three nights in a row, + had a good 32nd overall i do think! the baking continues w/ cupcakes for an office party + dog treats for all our furry friends.

today makes one week since the tragedy at sandy hook elementary school, near + dear to my heart. the healing has begun for my family but we have a ways to go. amy hackworth wrote a great essay on design mom about how to talk to your children about tragedy.
oh, what love studios has a lovely roundup of 2013 planners. (the anthropologie one is my favorite too, mariah!)
i'm taking notes for the future from katie at skunkboy creatures. the advent calendar she put together for her daughters is full of the obligatory (+ charming) tiny gifts, but also has christmas experiences sprinkled throughout, like baking cookies together or going to a winter wonderland. what a perfect way to spend time together + teach kids that christmas is more about presents!
i don't know if you know, but i used to work at a movie theater -- about 6 years there total (wow). i was a projectionist + was actually really terrible at it. but i liked that job + being around movies. design mom featured black + white photos of empty movie theaters taken by hiroshi sugimoto that resonated w/ me + almost made me miss working at the theater!
james posted a recipe that i've got to try this holiday season -- a stone 1510, which is made up of rye whiskey, benedictine, + a few others. i'm a big whiskey lover esp. when it's cold, so this is on the list for sure.
there's still time to send out seasonal + new year's cards! check out what hello!lucky has to offer. use the code LUCKY2012 at checkout for 15% off your order of holiday photo cards thru 1/6/13. the confetti ones are my favorite.*
the cutest christmas-themed photo sesh ever!
got any yoga-lovers on your holiday shopping list? these magic carpet-inspired mats are blowing me away. here are a couple you wouldn't mind leaving out after your sun salutation.
my dear + close friend arielle has put together the definitive christmas music playlist. it's on repeat today.
