I feel like when seasons change is usually a good time to take a critical look at my closet. Maybe my tastes have changed, or my body has changed, or both. I recently had this moment where I realized my clothes looked nothing like the styles I admire on Pinterest. And why shouldn't they? With all that pinning, I had unintentionally focused on kind of a minimalist aesthetic. Commonalities that emerged include lots of black and white with a few muted, vintage-y colors thrown in; loafers (oh, the loafers!); cropped trousers; button-downs; boxy dresses; and crew neck sweaters. Styles that are a tick more androgynous than I had been dressing.
So I sort of did some style editing during the transition from spring to summer (I blame this book, too), and it's something I want to carry into fall, too. In short: I want to keep dressing like I'm in a 1950s London girl gang. Until I win the lottery and can start shopping exclusively at Madewell, it's luckily been pretty easy to be picky at thrift stores and more affordable stores like H&M. (Jk I will never stop thrifting.)
I really like this new uniform. In fact, it really does feel like a uniform – in the best way! I went to a Catholic high school (did you know that?) and wore a uniform every day. Aside from, ya know, forming lasting and important friendships that have carried on to adulthood, that was my favorite part of going to that school. Mornings were so freaking easy. I didn't have to worry at all about what to wear!
It kind of feels like that now that I've been trying to be more intentional with my closet. Everything I have matches (because most of it's either black or white, ha!). It all lends itself to layering, so I can keep more clothes out yearround.
I love the unisex look of wooden watches, and I was excited when JORD Wood Watches offered to let me pick one out (especially because I admire their sustainable practices). I chose the Maple Fieldcrest watch, and have gotten no end of compliments on it from both men and women.
And guess what else! They were kind enough to offer a giveaway. Enter RIGHT HERE for your chance to win a $75 to JORD. (Psst – just for entering, you'll get $20 off.)
Who knew dressing the way you like would make you feel good, too? ;)
